History of Justes
B Labrador Retreivers
Kiku and Vern Kennedy and
8 year old daughter arrived from Salzburg, Austria to Santa Fe, NM, summer
of
1950. The Santa Fe fiesta and horse show were in progress when the Kennedys
plus 2 standard Poodles arrived. All hotel rooms were booked. Vern Kennedy
was quite a dynamic individual and found people of
great interest as he wandered around the Plaza. Since there was no where to
stay, everything was booked
along with the La
Fonda, Vern ran into a gentleman
by the name of Col. Beasley, who when apprised of the Kennedy plight, invited
the family plus dogs, to stay
with his family in Tesuque until the festivities were over and hotel accommodations
would be available.
Kiku fell in love with the small "Mexican Village" and decided that
this is where she wanted to live for the
rest
of her life. Vern had the idea of opening a boarding kennel, possibly operating
the kennel 9 months out
of the year with hopes of spending the other 3 months
in Mexico fishing. A wise real estate person directed
the Kennedys to Albuquerque as Santa Fe was small
and possibly did not have a large enough dog
community to support such a venture..
So here the saga begins, the rest is history.
New Mexican Kennels, Inc. and Justes B Labrador Retrievers are entwined, as
the first Labrador Retriever came into the Kennedy h ousehold in 1952.
New Mexican Kennels opened its door for business
on April 28, 1951, with 25 runs. Today there are 100.
The Labrador Retrievers from ‘50s era were under the Donau kennel prefix.
" Justes B" came in 1966,
Donau dogs can still be traced back in some of the
Justes B line…………..
The beat goes on..
